Schoolage/Summer Camp

Our School Age/summer camp program practices the pedagogical approach of play-based learning using “How Does Learning Happen? Ontario’s Pedagogy for the Early Years”.

At Bloorcourt Village Early Learning Centre our School Age room is bright, open-concept and equipped with only age-appropriate furniture in order to promote independence, self-help skills and thus, self-esteem. We believe every child is unique and competent in their own way. Every child should feel safe, valued, and have a sense of belonging which would allow them to express their individual needs and skills. Our flexible programming approach and environmental layout promotes the development of these qualities by allowing children to make their own choices in a quiet, relaxed atmosphere. Through group discussions, children may choose to plan their activities of interest with assistance from the educator or they may decide to spontaneously engage in specialized areas of interest which foster growth in social, emotional, cognitive, literacy, and physical development. The children are supervised in a 1:15 ratio by educators whom have structured this program into a space in which children can appropriate their freedom and be introduced to practicing responsibilities that follows their freedom of choice.

Bloorcourt Village Early Learning Centre provides supervised escort services for the school age children during the school year to St. Anthony Catholic Elementary School and Dovercourt Public School. We welcome children outside of our community as long as the families provide transportation for their child to and from schools they are enrolled at.

During the summer months Bloorcourt Village Early Learning Centre provides all day activities for our school age children. We take the children on a variety of excursions in our community and around the GTA.
